Two words – Shawn Lane

I can’t believe I never listened to this guy while he was alive! As a guitarist myself, I have a lot of music in the ‘guitar geek’ category… the usual suspects like Al Dimeola, Eric Johnson, Satch and Steve Vai… but I never really got Shawn Lane.  Yikes… what an amazing player… if you have any doubts watch this youtube.

Jennifer Batten – New CD/DVD April 18th

“Whatever” is her first new CD since Tribal Rage/Momentum ten years ago. Go get it! JenniferBatten.com. If you are local to Portland, OR, Jennifer is playing a one-woman show at Mississippi Studios. This is an amazing opportunity to see one of the world’s most talented and innovative guitarists in an up-close-and-personal setting. MS is a small recording studio with a teeny living room-style performance room. This is a one-off. It could be ten years to the next CD release party!

Just found out… there is a youtube post of one of thenew tracks, Hooligan’s Holiday. It definitely delivers.

Guitarmageddon 2006 – end of the road

This great blues player, Dale, took the honors, playing a really cool Saul Koll guitar.  Dale’s custom hollowbody strat sounded sweet in his hands.  Oh well… watch out in 2007!

Guitarmageddon 2006 update

I won my first round, and made it through to the Beaverton, OR store final :-)   Happy day.  There was some really good competition, especially Jack, with his drool-worthy Parker Deluxe, so I was a little surprised. But now it gets tough.  April 4th for the next round.

Guitarmageddon 2006

Once more into the breach… the most fearsome of all guitar contests gets under way around the country! And believe me, it really is more nerve wracking than playing gigs. I’ve been playing thirty years, gigs are easy. Guitarmageddon still gives me chills. I’ll be in the Portland, OR store round on March 28th this year Read more
